17 Nationalities visit Londiani

Friends of Londiani through a unique partnership project with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) enabled 21 volunteers from 17 countries to travel to Londiani for 1 week and work on community development projects there.

Volunteers met in Nairobi, travelled to Naivasha for a team briefing before arriving in Londiani on Monday 17th August. The volunteers came from Guiding Associations in Canada, Zimbabwe, UK, Senegal, Malaysia, Ghana, Pakistan, Tanzania, Liberia, Madagascar, New Zealand, Lebanon, Swaziland, Beize, Denmark, Kenya and The Maldives. The volunteers worked on Health Surveys, Committee Trainings, Summer Camps, Home Maintenance and Peer Education Lifeskills projects. They also surveyed the community water tanks projects, and assisted with a Maternal Health Course for Traditional Birth Attendants and Community Health Workers.

The interaction between the local community and the international volunteers was excellent with local youth groups providing a drama evening, and the local Kenyan Guides providing a fantastic welcome, and cultural entertainment.

The Chief Commissioner of the Kenyan Girl Guides Association (KGGA), Dr Christine Sadia, and Mrs Honorine Kiplagat, Trustee of KGGA along with other representatives of KGGA visited Londiani on Thursday for a closing ceremony and a presentation of the FOL projects.

The international volunteers, and 2 representatives from Londiani KGGA are now participating in the WAGGGS Juliette Low Seminar which is taking place in Kenya this week. More information on this seminar can be found on the WAGGGS website - http://www.wagggs.org/en/events/389
