GIRLS for GIRLS

“Opening Doors”

Girl Guide and Girl Scout Leaders from around the world join together with the Friends of Londiani, Kenya to support the local community in an initiative to provide 4,500 local girls with sanitary products.

Girls in Londiani often miss school one week of every month when they have their period as they do not have access to affordable sanitary products. Additionally, the conditions of the some of the toilets at school in Londiani are very basic, unhygienic and without doors. This means girls do not go to  school when they have their period due to the lack of facilities and embarrassment.

You can be a part of the solution!

Providing sanitary protection will ‘open doors’ for these girls. A small donation will ensure these girls can attend school all year round and increase the chance for these girls to continue their education.

The idea of this campaign is to raise enough money over 12 months to contribute to a sustainable project which will provide cheaper sanitary towels in the community, which in turn will enable more girls to go to school.  All proceeds from the project will be invested through FOL’s Health programmes in schools to provide latrines and facilities for girls.  It will also be coupled with a hygiene/health education programme.  This programme has 5 core principles - sustainability, educational opportunities, hygiene and sanitation, cost-effective, environmentally friendly.

$2 a month will provide affordable sanitary towels for one girl - that’s only $24 a year!
